Today at the National Growth Debate, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband, committed the UK to “doubling down” on the government’s clean energy mission, with a series of new policies designed to accelerate the rollout of clean power in the power system, and the electrification of home heating and transport.
Catherine Pettengell, Executive Director of Climate Action Network UK (CAN-UK) said:
“Doubling down on the UK’s clean energy mission – by going further and faster – is the right choice for UK families as well as for nature and our climate. This is welcome news ahead of the first global conference on transitioning away from fossil fuels next week in Santa Marta, Colombia.
“We welcome greater opportunities for affordable clean energy and green jobs here in the UK and urge governments to make progress in Santa Marta to address the debt, tax, and trade barriers that prevent low- and middle-income countries from pursuing a prosperous clean energy future too.
“All policies must be implemented with strong social and environmental safeguards in place to ensure they work for people, nature, and climate.”
